Note: I believe that the field location of the 48th Ohio
Veteran Volunteer (mentioned
in the regimental history link below the article of S.A. Poché) was to the left of
the
19th Kentucky (see upper center portion of map below) as stated in their history.
The map may be in error. The "48th Ill" should be the "48th
Ohio" as the 48th Illinois
Regiment was in Georgia at the time of the battle of Mansfield. The 18th
Louisiana is
in the center of Gray's Brigade (top center of map below). Distance of the double quick
charge to the rail fence for the 18th Louisiana during the First Phase of the Battle was
approximately a quarter of a mile of open field.
